Welcome to Atelier Seigies!
Atelier Seigies is a small-scale manufactory in the traditional sense — a place dedicated to craftsmanship, style awareness, and individuality. Far removed from mainstream fashion and short-lived trends, exclusive garments are created here by hand in Germany. With great attention to detail, artisanal skill, and genuine care, pieces are knitted, crocheted, embroidered, knotted, and sewn by hand. The entire creative process — from the first artistic impulse to the handcrafted execution and conceptual planning — remains in the hands of founder Astrid Seigies. All cuts and patterns are original designs. Every thread is guided with intention. Each piece carries the character of its own creation. Quantities are limited. The diversity is not.
Quality over quantity.
A small menu instead of all-you-can-eat.
The essence of the menu: timeless elegance, a touch of bohemian spirit — finished with a generous shot of rock ’n’ roll. Voilà.
Weste Formentera
This is not a traditional online shop. It is a glimpse into my studio work.
I do not work in collections, but in individual pieces.
The first available piece will be online soon.
About me
My name is Astrid Seigies. A lover of style, a craftswoman, and a designer driven by the urge to create. The act of making has fascinated me for as long as I can remember.
In 2021, I finally made the decision to establish my own business: Atelier Seigies.
My greatest source of inspiration? Without question, the generations of women in my family.
Stylish, independent and creative.
Great-grandmothers captured in faded photographs from the turn of the century, their shy gazes hidden beneath elegant hats. Grandmothers with daring short hairstyles, embracing the spirit of the 1920s. Stories of difficult wartime years, when coats were carefully taken apart and transformed into warm clothing for children. Memories of the elegance and prosperity of the post-war economic boom. Treasures and stories collected from distant countries, folklore from every corner of the world. A journey into modernity. A constant gaze towards the future.
Garments were made with care, creatively reworked and skillfully repaired. Nothing was simply thrown away. In many ways, it was slow fashion and sustainability in their most authentic form.
Sustainability
…a meaningful term, open to many interpretations and definitions.
Atelier Seigies understands sustainability in a very tangible way:
Gratitude for the gifts of nature.
Appreciation for the value of craftsmanship and handwork.
A commitment to protecting and preserving both.
-
All handcrafted work is produced exclusively in Germany.
This means:
Higher labor costs, but a lower environmental impact through reduced CO₂ emissions.
Appreciation of skilled craftsmanship and fair working conditions.
Short transport routes and transparent production processes.
A little patience may be part of the process.
But no mass production. No overproduction. No disposable fashion.
Instead, each piece is created in its own time — thoughtfully crafted by hand and made to be cherished for years to come. -
At Atelier Seigies, we work with high-quality materials, most of which carry recognized certifications such as GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) or OEKO-TEX®.
The internationally recognized GOTS certification identifies textile products that consist of at least 70% organically produced natural fibres and are verified throughout the entire production chain – from raw material to finished product – according to strict ecological and social criteria.
OEKO-TEX® is a globally standardized certification system based on comprehensive testing methods, criteria and limits for harmful substances. It certifies that textile products are safe for human health and free from harmful levels of potentially hazardous substances. This means:
A more limited selection of materials.
But textiles produced according to ecological and social standards.Merino Wool:
For our knitted collections, we primarily use GOTS-certified merino wool.
These pieces are crafted from 100% merino wool sourced from Merino sheep and spun by renowned Italian spinning mills. Merino wool is considered one of the finest and most luxurious wool fibres in the world.
This natural material is valued for its exceptional properties. It is naturally dirt-resistant, insulating, breathable and moisture-regulating.Simply put:
You do not feel cold in merino wool — and you do not overheat in merino wool.
The yarn used for these pieces is distinguished by a special spinning process. Rather than being tightly twisted, it consists of a loosely spun and gently twisted single strand. This creates its characteristic soft, airy volume and cloud-like texture.
Due to its delicate structure, this yarn can only be worked by hand, making it particularly suitable for artisanal knitwear.Care:
Frequent washing is neither necessary nor recommended.
As with other high-quality natural fibres, regular airing and gentle hand washing when needed are the preferred methods of care.
Some pilling may occur over time, even with premium merino wool. This is a natural characteristic of fine wool fibres and should not be considered a defect. Any pilling can easily be removed using standard methods such as careful brushing or gentle combing.
With proper care, merino wool garments can retain their beauty and comfort for many years. -
The knitwear collections are made predominantly from merino wool. Only mulesing-free wool is used.
This means:
Higher material costs.
But no animal suffering. -
Carefully crafted workmanship, thoroughly checked and tested.
This means:
Greater time and effort invested in production.
But durability and longevity. -
Handcrafted, high-quality one-of-a-kind pieces are meant to be cherished – not thrown away.
To support this philosophy, Atelier Seigies offers:
